Polysocial risk score, lifestyle, genetic factors and risk of incident lung cancer
A cohort study examining how social vulnerability, lifestyle, and inherited susceptibility jointly shape incident lung-cancer risk.
Research question
How do multiple social determinants combine to influence lung-cancer risk, and how are those associations modified by lifestyle and genetic susceptibility?
Study
The analysis included 349,553 UK Biobank participants without a previous cancer diagnosis. A polysocial risk score integrated twelve social determinants across three domains, alongside lifestyle and lung-cancer genetic-risk scores.
Key finding
Higher polysocial risk was associated with greater incident lung-cancer risk. Lifestyle partly mediated this relationship, and participants with both high social and high genetic risk had the greatest observed risk, highlighting the interaction between social context and inherited susceptibility.
